Bert was born in Middlezoy, Somersetshire, England to Charles Bown and Anna Davis.
He married Annie Napper on April 25, 1897 at Bristol, England and they were married for 67 years. He had farmed in the Antioch area for 40 years, retiring in 1944. He also worked for Johns Manville Corp. from 1929 to 1941. He was a member of St. Ignatius Episcopal Church and the Modern Woodmen of America.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Annie, on March 14, 1965 and one son, Victor Bown on June 20, 1965.
