Great, Grandpa Dawe was born to Richard and Jane Leming Dawe in Valley Truckle, Cornwall, England. His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather came from The Linkinhorne unitl his family moved to the west coast of Cornall near Tintagel. His mother is buried in Yorkshire where the family migrated to within a few years of Alfred's birth. I'm not sure what cemetery his father is buried at but probably in the N. Skelton or Brotton area.
In 1890, Alfred married Hannah A. Ranson in N. Skelton where the families were living in Yorkshire. In 1904, when his youngest child was about five, he took the family to Canada and settled in Cobalt. Both his son's married there and then they were in the CO-SEF during WWI. Fred and most of his family emigrated to the US in 1919 through Detroit.
Initially they settled in Michigan. Two of his brothers who also left England had settled in western Michigan, both of them were ministers. Fred and his wife, called Nana, by the family, managed an apartment house in Detroit. Prior to coming to the US he had worked in mines, even in Canada.
Their daughter, Margaret, had married and lived in California. Fred and Nana moved out there, possibly after WWII, but I dón't know when for sure. Their grandson, Art, had married in CA, but eventually returned to MI. Their son, Percy, also moved out there at one point; he died almost the same day his father did.
I remember little of Great, Grandpa Dawe. He died before I was out of grade school.
