Funeral services for Melba Henry Barnes, 70, of Swainsboro will be Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Ervin Stapleton officiating. Burial will be in the Lamb Cemetery near Swainsboro. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. She died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Barnes was born in Adrian. She had a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and taught pre-k and kindergarten for 30 years in the Emanuel County and Tattnall County schools. After retiring, students kept calling her back to teach. She loved her grandchildren, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Henry and Fara Mae Peebles Henry Fulmer; husband, Jack Barnes; sister, Louetta Kersey; brothers, Hugh Henry, Kenneth Henry, N.C. (Sammy) Henry, Lake Henry, Ron Henry and Don Henry.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy (Sam) Stewart of Richmond Hill; son, Travis (Anne) Todd of Stillmore; sisters, Ruth Hutcheson of Norristown, and Merle Brock of Swainsboro; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tal Henry, Jamie Henry, Mike Henry, Jessie Henry, Jim Quattlebaum and Craig Brock. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Melba Henry Barnes to Hebron Baptist Church c/o Ricky Henry 16 Ricky Rd, Kite GA 31049 or Hospice Advantage 7A Allen-Cail Dr, Statesboro GA 30458.
