Graveside services are at 1 p.m. today at Glenview cemetery in East Palestine for John A (Jack) Davis,49, of 148 S.Vine St. a former East Palestine resident who was pronounced dead on arrival at South Side Hospital, Youngstown at 12:15 a.m Friday of injuries received a half-hour earlier in a car-truck accident on SR 7, near North Lima.
The Rev. Jerald L. Parker, pastor of Shady Grove Holiness Tabernacle, East Palestine will conduct services. There are no calling hours. The Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
According to the Stae Highway Patrol, the Davis car and a tractor-trailer loaded with more than 30,000 pounds of steel pipe were both southbound on SR 7 near the Ohio Tunrpike underpass when the accident occurred.
Officals said he driver of the truck Jaret B. Thurston, 35, of Highland Heights had slowed his vehicle to make a right-hand turn into the turnpike when his rig was struck from behind by the Davis car. Thurston was uninjured.
Mr. Davis was born in East Palestine Dec. 23, 1928 the son of Clyde J. and Virginia Everett Davis and had moved to Columbiana 12 years ago where he was a scurity officer for the NRM Corp.
He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Churchin East Palestine.
He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth Parker, whom he married Nov. 5, 1949, three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Holland of East Palestine, Teena M. Davis of New Waterford and Joan Davis at home; two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Haggerty of Beaver, Pa. and Mrs. Howard (Jane) Hill of East Palestine; six brothers, William M., Robert C., Paul K., Clifford D., and George E Davis all of East Palestine and Donald L. Davis of Smiths Ferry, Pa.
There are two grandchildren.
A daugher, Peggy Sue Davis preceded him in death on Dec. 4 1962 and a twin brother, James E. Davis was killed in an auto accident at the intersection of SR 7 and SR 46 west of New Waterford on Oct. 15, 1969
