John Wilson Cook January 3, 1921 - November 30, 2011 Biography John Wilson Cook was born on January 3, 1921 at Arroll, Missouri, the son of John Wilson Cook and Faye Temple Cook. He departed this life on November 30, 2011 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
He was united in marriage to Mildred Thesta Kirkman on May 24, 1941 at Gray Summit, Missouri and to this union one son and one daughter were born.
John attended Arroll rural school and graduated from Summersville High School in 1939. He spent time in CCC camp and served three years in 15th Army Air Force. He was a Staff Sergeant and completed 50 bombing missions in World War II while stationed in Italy. He survived a B-24 plane crash. John received six Bronze Stars for campaigns, the Air medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
John and Mildred moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1941. He was an active member, also deacon and elder, of the Arcadia Christian Reformed Church and has many Christian friends there. John worked in woodworking for thirty years; first as a sticker man, then as a superintendent. After retirement, John and Mildred spent twenty years traveling and twenty winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
They moved to Mountain View, Missouri in 1997 and attended First Presbyterian and United Methodist Churches.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Naomi Hagemann and Erma Summer, and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; their two children, Larry B. Cook and wife, Roxie, of Santa Clorita, CA and Connie Lynn Clark and husband, Chuck, of Arroll, MO; one sister, Stella Patterson of Mountain View; two nieces, Sharon Holt and family, and Janet Patterson of Akron, OH; and one nephew, John H. Summer of Granite City, IL. Visitation Saturday December 3, 2011, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at Yarber Mortuary Funeral Services Saturday December 3, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Yarber Mortuary Interment Arroll Cemetery, Arroll, MO
