Obituary for Ethelinda J. "Lindy" Andrus

Ethelinda J "Lindy" Andrus, beloved mother, grandmother and gracious friend, passed away in Keller, Texas on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at the age of 95.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at Ardoin Funeral Home, in Kinder, Louisiana. The Rev. Truman Stagg, pastor of Kinder United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Kinder McRiIl Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin's. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.

Lindy was born on Aug. 17, 1913, in Kinder, to Frank and Susanna Jemison. She was one of 11 children. In 1930 she graduated from Kinder High School and married Chester Andrus. They had five daughters. The family moved to Houston in 1953 where Lindy worked and retired from Herman Hospital. She then moved to Magnolia, Texas, to be close to her daughter, Helen, and her family. In 1983, she moved back to Kinder, where she was involved in Friends of The Library, Kinder Cemetery Committee, and the Genealogy Society. She became a member of the DAR. She and Grace Cornish authored a book, "Looking Back At Kinder" in 1985.

Lindy moved to Lake Charles in the mid-1990's to be near her daughter, Ellen Murchison, and her family. After Hurricane Rita in September, 2005, she was evacuated to Keller, Texas, to be near her daughters, Fran Dyer and Shirley Boylan. She has been lovingly cared for by her children.

Lindy was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

She was especially fond of baking and cooking, and she always enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her 10 siblings, her parents and two grandchildren.

Survivors include her five daughters, Marverine Miller of Acworth, Georgia; Ellen Murchison of Lake Charles; Shirley Boylan and husband Jim of Granbury, Texas; Fran Dyer and husband Archie of Keller, Texas; and Helen Koth of Conroe, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lindy loved her family dearly and was always concerned for their welfare. Memorials may be made to the Kinder United Methodist Church.
