Clyde Armstrong , 77, 598 W. Valley Drive, Kingsport, died Thursday evening (Jan. 8, 1998) at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home after an extended period of poor health. Born in Hawkins County, he had lived in the Mill Creek area since 1940. He retired from Eastman Chemical Company where he worked as an operator in the spinning department. He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 30th Old Hickory Division, European Theater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Rachel Armstrong .
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Nell (Carberry) Armstrong , of the home; a son, Allen A. Armstrong , Kingsport; two grandchildren, Andrew Allen Armstrong and Elizabeth Anne Armstrong , both of Kingsport; nephews, Dean Sells and Tommy Sells, both of Kingsport; a nice, Jeanne Holmes, Kingsport; and a sister-in-law, Norma Ruth Sells, Kingsport.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Amos Lockhart officiating. Entombment services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Washington County Memory Gardens.
