Charles or Charley J. Watts: according to MULTIPLE sources, Charles J. Watts's birth name was John Claiborne Lott (as the information concerns his wife-Rachel Hendrix's-family and it notes their descendants).

It also states that his children with her were William Jefferson Watts, who would have been the older brother of Charles D. Watts, Sr., whom I believe Charley was visiting when he was struck by the auto that killed him. He was crossing the street when he was struck by an auto driven by high school girls and killed.

The newspaper article which appeared in the Fort Smith Times Record reads as follows:

Jan. 23, 1925
CHARLES J. WATTS BURIED HERE THURS
"Funeral Services for Man Injured by Automobile Conducted by B.V. Ferguson
Funeral services for Charles J. Watts, well-known citizen and civil war veteran[untrue - he would have been nine or ten years old at the time of the Civil War, according to the 1860 census, which stated that he was six years old], who died Wed. night at a local hospital from injuries received when run down by an automobile on Texas Road earlier in the evening were held Thurs. afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Fentress chapel. Dr. B.V. Ferguson, pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery .

Mr. Watts alighted from the car, driven by his son, W. J. Watts, 1115 South M street, with whom he made his home, and had started across the street near Maness store, on the Texas Road , when the machine, occupied by Juanita and Agnes Wright approached from behind him. According to witnesses, the driver of the car wheeled the machine to the edge of the road, almost ditching it in in a futile effort to dodge the man. He was knocked down and his body run over by the machine."
