This cemetery is across, and down the river from Norfork. It is located on the old Richard C. Hutcheson farm. We found a large cut stone cairn in the corner of this cemetery that may also hold the remains of Richard C. - and is said to hold the remains of his first wife Nancy "WOLF". Nancy died in 1844 an hour and a half after her 21st child was born. There is no written record of where either of them was buried that I have found.
Bob Bounds and Emmit Acklin, with the help of Ophelia Davis, hunted for, and found, this old family cemetery in the late 1970s. A bulldozer had gone through there several years before that repairing the road. The area was so badly overgrown with brush and creeping vines that no stone, nor even the large cairn, could be seen. About half of the cairn stones were scrapped off and scattered.
A few weeks later Bob Bounds, George Salo and Emmit Acklin gathered the cut limestone blocks that had been scattered by the bulldozer and reconstructed the cairn. They searched the area carefully, but found only three tombstones.
To get to the cemetery take the road to Martin Springs. Follow the main road on past where Ophelia Davis' house was, do not turn off anywhere. You will soon come to a gate. From the gate on it is/was a very steep hill all the way to the creek. Cross the creek and watch for a cut limestone cairn on the very edge of the road on the left.
This is now private property. As of about 1990 there was access to the property.
