Stuart Broadus "Stu" Abraham, 86, of 1135 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born June 15, 1916, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John B. and Annie A. Harwood Abraham.

He attended George Washington University.

He was co-owner of J & S Inc. in Alexandria, Va., and was employed by Motor Truck Service and Sharrett Motors. In 1958, he founded and became president of Antietam Equipment Corp. He retired in 1987.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport and a former member of Hagerstown Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of Hagerstown Lions Club, a recipient of Melvin Jones Fellow Award, a former member of Civitan Club, was on the executive committee of the Mason-Dixon Council of Boy Scouts of America, was an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, the Mason-Dixon Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society and a former board member of the Washington County Historical Society. He was a member, past president and past chairman of the board of directors of the American Truck Historical Society, and received the Society's Harris Saunders Award for outstanding achievement and contributions.

He is survived by his wife,
Ida Jeanne Abraham;
two daughters,
Lois A. Heefner of Aurora, Colo., and
Joyce B. Abraham of Marietta, Ga.;
five sons,
Lawrence D. Abraham of Austin, Texas,
Neal B. Abraham of Greencastle, Ind.,
Austin S. Abraham and
Roger G. Abraham, both of Hagerstown, and
Wickliffe C. Abraham of Dunedin, New Zealand;
six grandchildren; and
twin great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one
brother, John H. Abraham.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport. The Rev. Mark Sandell will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hagerstown Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 167, Hagerstown, MD 21741; Washington County Historical Society, 135 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Mason-Dixon Council Boy Scouts of America, 18600 Crestwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
