Mrs. Allen Dead.
Last Monday, August 22nd, Mrs. Susan W. Allen died at her home at Oak Grove, about five miles northwest of Perry. The burial was at Fort Valley Monday afternoon, Rev. M. F. Beals of Perry, her pastor, officiating. She was 83 years of age, a devoted member of the Methodist church...Surviving her are four sons and one daughter, James T. Hughes of Byromville, William T. Hughes and John H. Allen of Houston county, Alex F. Allen of Atlanta, and Mrs. Julia Hughes Fulcher of Waynesboro.

In Memory of Mrs. Susan W. Allen
Mrs. Susan W. Allen was born in Barnwell District, South Carolina, February 25th, 1828...Sister Allen was twice married. First to Mr. W. T. Hughes. From this union, James H. and W. T. Hughes of Houston county and Mrs. S. R. Fulcher of Burke county were born. Her second husband was Mr. W. D. Allen and to this union, Alex S. Allen of Atlanta, Ga, John H. Allen and Miss Maggie Allen of Houston county, were born. The youngest daughter, Miss Maggie, preceded her mother to the better world a few years ago...Her remains were taken to Fort Valley and placed by the side of her daughter..

{Susan petitioned the court in Barnwell District, SC, to revoke her letters of administration on estate of her deceased husband William T. Hughes and appoint her brother Dr. William H. Hagood as administrator as she had married William D. Allen from Houston County Georgia (27 Apr 1862) and was domiciled in that state. Final accounting of the estate by Dr. Hagood.....shares of estate to: Susan W. Allen, Julia Hughes, William Hughes, James Hughes......}
