William J. Calnon, former Detroit newspaperman and for 20 years active in publicity and campaign work in Detroit, died Monday at his home 940 Marcy street. Death followed a heart attack. Born in Detroit 64 years ago, Calnon was graduated from the University of Detroit and entered news work in 1900. He worked on all three Detroit papers prior to 1921 when he resigned as assistant managing editor of the Detroit Journal and entered publicity work. In 1930 he was secretary and treasurer of the DSR. Services will be held Thursday from the J. Sutton & Sons Funeral Home, 4147 Trumbull avenue. Requiem Mass will be at St. Patrick's Church. Calnon's wife, Stella Ryan, died in 1930. He is survived by a sister, Miss Gertrude M. Calnon, and a daughter, Mrs. Leontine Dyers, of Chicago.
