Husband of Mabel Ann Nussbaum. Son of John Manuel Abrahamson and Artie Pearl Holder

Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, July 16, 2009

Albert Walter (Tut) Abrahamson, 90, youngest child of John Manuel and Artie (Holder) Abrahamson, was born October 15, 1918 on the family farm nine miles northeast of Chariton, in Lucas County, Iowa. It was the same home he lived in until he married.

He passed away July 9, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He had been a resident at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center for the last one and one half years.

Albert was known by most as "Tut", a nickname someone gave him as a toddler.

Albert attended Renfro Country School near his home through 8th grade. During his youth his family regularly attended Mason Church of the Nazarene in rural Lucas County.

As a young man, he worked on the family farm with his dad and two brothers, Leonard and Bill. He also worked for several farmers in the community.

Albert married Mabel Nussbaum, of Newbern, Iowa on November 18, 1939 in Princeton, Missouri. Six children were born to this union. He and Mabel rented and eventually bought a farm in English Township where they farmed until 1957 when the family moved to Chariton.

He also worked for the John Deere Store in Chariton, Johnson's Machine Works and many years for Wright's Tree Service until retirement in 1981. He then took part-time employment for the next seventeen years with the best job ever at the Chariton Senior Citizens Center, driving a SIEDA bus route carrying TENCO employees to and from work. It was no secret that each of these clients held a special place in his heart.

Albert and Mabel traveled to several different states including Washington, D.C., most with their pickup camper. Music, especially country-western, was an integral part of their lives. They took many trips to Branson, Missouri and a few to Nashville to enjoy the music and comedy shows.

At home, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with Mabel. Albert had very good carpentry and gardening skills and enjoyed applying them to their homes. Whenever they moved into a different home, the first thing he did was start remodeling and improving and plotting a garden.

Albert will always be remembered as a loving, giving, gentle hearted, humorous and interesting husband, dad, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and uncle.

After his loving wife Mabel, of more than 68 years died one and one half years ago, he missed her and longed for the day he would join her again and assured us many times that he was ready to go.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; an infant daughter, Mabel Marlene; his parents; two brothers, Leonard Abrahamson and Amos Bill Abrahamson, and his sister, Esther Morton.

He is survived by one son, Lonnie (Chris) Abrahamson, West Des Moines; four daughters, Alberta (Dan) Johnson, Chariton; Viola (Jerry) Morton, Buffalo, Minnesota; Bonnie (David) Lovett, Chariton; and Sue (Marvin) Neer, Russell; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Orval (Emma) Nussbaum, Chariton; several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with Pastor David Lovett officiating. Music was provided by Joseph Allwood, soloist and Colene Reynolds, organist. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.

Serving as bearers were Nick Abrahamson, Travis Lovett, Steve Neer, Jim Neer, Jeff Neer and David Johnson. Honorary bearers were Mark Adcock, Jay Adcock, Todd Adcock, Jeremy Morton, Brent Johnson, John Lovett, Jeff Shook and Alisa Abrahamson.
