Frances June Ashley, a model of loveliness, charm and grace, went peacefully to the presence of the Lord at Lee's Summit Medical Center on January 14, 2009, at 8 p.m. She was 85.

June was born in Grand Junction, Colo., on April 22, 1923, to parents Samuel Francis Clifton and Myrtle M. Harris Clifton. She attended Faxon Elementary and graduated from Westport High School.

She married William H Ashley, Jr., on March 21, 1943, at the Linwood Presbyterian Church where they met in the homebuilder's class. She worked for the Business Men's Assurance Company as the secretary to the actuary. She was secretary to the Raytown Board of Education and to Reverend Thomas Blaney at the Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church. She was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and served as secretary in the session at Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church.

June was an active member of Colonial Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the special fellowship of the Primetimers and the weekly study group that met at John Knox Village. June was an artist and pianist. In recent years she lovingly knitted hundreds of baby sweaters and bonnets for family and friends and babies cared for in hospital nurseries in Kansas City. June will be remembered for her "kindness and loving spirit" that was shared generously with all around her. She is greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

June is survived by her loving husband of 65 years; three sons, William Howard Ashley (Pamela), Kansas City, Lawrence Dean Ashley (Marsha Kim), Westwood Hills, and Kenneth Brian Ashley, Kansas City; her sister Mary Alice Corbett (Robert Porter Corbett), Lee's Summit; six grandchildren, Clifton Trent Ashley, Jessica Elizabeth Ashley, Westwood Hills, Gerald Crispin (Valerie), Terilynn Crispin Jones (James), Lee's Summit, Matias Crispin (Theresa), Colorado Springs; five great grandchildren, Jordan Baldwin, Matthew and Jonathan Crispin, Owen and Maria Crispin; niece Marcia June Corbett, Mission; nephews Robert Clifton Corbett, Fort Lauderdale, and John Barnum Huntsville, Ala.; great nephew Wally Barnum (Sarah) and children Lydia and Maeve.

June was preceded in death by her sister Olive Ruth Raymond (Clinton Wayne) of Spokane, Wash., and niece Lorraine Ann Raymond Barnum.

A memorial service will be held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114, on Monday, January 19, at 2 p.m. Gifts may be sent to the memorial fund at the church.
