Louvina Watterson (whose first name was actually Sarah) graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1933 and worked for 29.5 years as executive assistant to the medical director at the Missouri State Chest Hospital (now called the Rehabilitation Center). She married Ross Baker. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, MO, and in 1965 was one of the first two women elected to be an elder.
In 1986, Louvina was named "Citizen of the Year" for Mount Vernon, a recognition of her volunteer work in the community. She has been a member of the national board of the United Presbyterian Church, coordinated the volunteer program at the Rehabilitation Center, chaired the Mount Vernon Red Cross bloodmobile program, and served as a member of the board of the Mount Vernon Housing Commission.
