OBITUARY - FORT SMITH TIMES RECORD, FORT SMITH, AR - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2007
JOHNNY J. AMERISE, 87, of Fort Smith, husband of Anna Louise Givens Amerise, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in Sparks Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was the son of the late Joseph and Carmela (Acerbis) Amerise.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from Whirlpool Corp. and Ward Furniture after many years of service. He attended Crossview Christian Church and was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Givens Amerise of Fort Smith; one son, John Amerise and his wife, Robin, of New York; one stepdaughter, Gayle Gregory and her husband, Nierman L. (Greg) of Tulsa; stepgrandchildren, Kirk and Keith Gregory and Kristen Jarvis, all of Tulsa; and several stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Elia of Brookly, NY; one brother, Arthur and his wife, Vera of Flemington, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Amerise; and two sisters, Mary Renna and Frances Amerise. Also, his special friends were the Brisco, Ragsdale, Ball, Wheeler and Grist families and, most especially, Ed Grist.
Johnny enjoyed his daily visits to the Village Inn for breakfast and had many dear friends who brightened his days. Many thanks to all the staff of Ashton Place, Sparks Hospital and Peachtree Hospice.
Memorial services will be in Fort Smith and New York at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith, AR.

Note: One half of Johnny's ashes were laid to rest with his wife of nearly 61 years (Anna Louise Givens Amerise) at Rose Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Fort Smith, AR and one half were given to his family in New York.
