Woodrow Alderman
Woodrow Wilson Alderman, 81, a resident of 40 Island Ave., Buckhannon, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 28, 1923, at Alexander, a son of the late Roy Lee Alderman and Etta Blanche Samples Alderman.
On June 1, 1947, he was married to Elsie Lois Hinkle Alderman, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary W. Alderman and wife, Jan, of Salem and Randall M. Alderman and wife, Jerilyn, of Buckhannon; one sister, Ethel Wilson of Painsville, Ohio; one grandson, Douglas Alderman and wife, Shelby, of Beckley; three granddaughters, Melissa Kane and husband, John Michael IV, of Arbovale, Kelly Alderman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Amanda Alderman of Winchester, Va.; one stepgrandson, Kurt Priester of Clarksburg; three stepgranddaughters, Cindy Miller of Fort Mill, S.C., Stephanie Drumheller of Charlottesville, Va., and Debbie Drumheller of Thomas; one great-grandson, James Douglas Alderman of Beckley; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wease Alderman, Robert "Bob" Alderman and William "Bill" Alderman; four sisters, Rita Pringle, Juanita Johnston, Goldie Johnson and Betty Marsh; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Nicole Kane; and one daughter-in-law, Merry Christmas Alderman.
He was a life member of Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598, Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion. In his younger days, he liked to hunt and fish. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in Italy.
Friends will be received today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wease Day and the Rev. Dick Chipps officiating. Interment will follow at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon where VFW Post 3663 and American Legion Post 7 will conduct graveside rites.
