Services for Hugh J Allcorn, 74, of Zephyr will be at 10:30 am Saturday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memoral park. Dr John Fourie is to officiate. He died at 10:45 pm Thursday at his home in Zephyr after a long illness.
Born in Brown County on Sept 7, 1914, he lived all his life here. He married Vivian McDaniel in Comanche on Oct 17, 1945. Mr Allcorn was elected Brown County Tax Assessor/collector in 1960 and served in that capacity for 16 years. He then retired to his farm and ranch.
He was a retired Army officer and a veteran of World War II. He was mobilized with the 36th Infantry Division in Brownwood Oct 15, 1940. He served with the 9th Infantry Division in the North Africa and Sicily campaigns as a unit commander, and was presented the Distinguished Service Cross in North Aftica by General George Paton. Following the war, Mr Allcorn was in the construction business for 15 years.
He helped in the organizations of the Zephyr Lions Club and the American Legion Post and was an officer of each. He was an adult leader for the 4-KH Clukb for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, George Allcorn of Brownwood; and several neices, nephews and cousins.
