Born in Austria, June 5, 1848, where he grew to manhood and served in the national army of that country. In 1872 he was married. This marriage was blessed with three children. Eight years later Mrs. Berger died and in 1883 Mr. Berger was married a second time and emigrated to Buffalo County during the same year, settling in the neighborhood of Riverdale. This second union was blessed with one son and five daughters. Again Mr. Berger was left a widower by his second wife in 1913. Four years later Mr. Berger married Albertina Schultz of York and Nebraska, and retired in Kearney where he lived until his death July 25. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, E. O. Potratz, at Zion Lutheran church July 27. Burial was made in the Lutheran(Peake) cemetery north of Riverdale where Br. Berger was one of the founders of the church many years ago. Those surviving are his widow and the following children: Fransisa, Bertha, Rudolph, Marie, Emma and Clara, all of this vicinity. Mr. Berger attained an ae of 72 years, one month and twenty days.
