Birth: Aug. 7, 1822
North Carolina, USA
Death: Jun. 24, 1895
San Luis Obispo County
California, USA

John C Baker and Elizabeth McCarroll were married on September 27, 1842 in Grayson Co. Virginia.

He and his wife Elizabeth had heard of the discovery of GOLD on the American River in California. Like many, he decided to go, and by ship he did. Reaching Pamama by 1849, he would have seen thousands waiting for a ship that would take them to California.

John arrives in California and stays for around 4 years. He then decides to go back for his family and bring them out to California.

In the 1850 census, Elizabeth is seen living with her parents while John is out west. He brings them to the gold country. They move around for while, finally deciding to settle in San Simeon and raise their family.

John Calvin Baker is my third great grand uncle, and the first ancestor in my family to come to California. Good job, J.C.
