Dale Edward Simpson, of Niagara Falls, died on Monday, December 14, 2009 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was 65. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on October 18, 1944, a son of the late Harry F. and Marie (Gasse) Simpson. He attended local schools including the former LaSalle Senior High School and Trott Vocational. He served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate and was stationed on the U.S.S. Hawkins and the U.S.S. Decatur. He served in active duty in the Vietnam War and other areas overseas. He received many specialized training certificates including gunnery and firefighter and received the Good Conduct Medal. After his service with the Navy, Mr. Simpson briefly worked for Kimberly Clark as a machinist. He also worked at Heritage Manor in maintenance He retired from security with Niagara University in 2004 after many years.
As his three children were growing up, Dale was very involved with various groups and coached Little League baseball, was a cub scout leader; very active with Steve, Chris and Dawn and their love for basketball. He maintained his love for the sport and continued to follow the local basketball teams. He also enjoyed his family camping trips, especially in Alleghany. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Justin, Katelyn, Jonathan, Dylan and Hannah. He was a member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post and the AARP, and was an avid bowler and bowled with various area leagues over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, the former Shirley Piper; three children, Steven Simpson (Michele) of Niagara Falls, Christopher Simpson (Rebecca) of Grand Island and Dawn Simpson of Niagara Falls; two brothers, Ronald Simpson (Carolyn) of Lockport, Gregory L. Simpson of Virginia Beach, VA; his five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday and Friday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the Lane Funeral Home, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where funeral services will be Saturday 11 AM. The interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston.
