Albert Lee Alexander, 62, was the Chief Human Resources Officer for Halifax Health overseeing the human resources functions and processes for the health system. Mr. Alexander joined Halifax Health in 1996, serving as assistant administrator of human resources. He relocated to Halifax Health with his wife, Janice Dickerson-Alexander and four children, Albert Jr, Cortney, Anisha and Michael. He will best be remembered for the wisdom and affection with which he dealt with all who crossed his path.

Al left an indelible mark during his time at Halifax Health. Not only was he known for his skill as a Human Resources Practitioner, Al believed in treating all who crossed his path with kindness, respect and dignity. He ensured that all people were treated fairly and with kindness, no matter the circumstance. Al was known for his intuitiveness when it came to the matters of people and had a way of helping them when no one else knew how. His love for his family was first and foremost, but always made time for his fellow man no matter how busy. He mentored many, and instilled within them the values he held dear, such as confidence in one's self, the value of not becoming easily angered, the ability to be diplomatic and fair in very difficult and stressful situations, but most of all cherishing loved ones and time spent well with them. Al was fondly known during his tenure at Halifax Health as "Uncle Al, the Employee's Pal."

In the field of his expertise as a Human Resources Practitioner, Al was known nationally for his ability to create programs that furthered the careers of thousands of employees. Al was especially known for his expertise in the realm of compensation, striking a balance between being an advocate for employees, as well as a strategic business partner for the organization. He could assess a situation from a macro level and had the foresight and vision to correct issues before they became problems for the organization, while at the same time, would take time to sit with an employee one on one if asked. He sought out opportunities to help others if it was within his power to do so. Al touched the lives of many. Many times, when people seek his counsel, he would share stories of his childhood, his own life experience and his family. This trait enabled Al to bring the person and their issue full circle, while at the same time through his humor, wisdom and life experience, assure the person they were not alone and there was "no field unplowed." People would seek Al in great pain and leave with comfort the hope of a better tomorrow.

Prior to joining Halifax Health, Al was vice president of human resources for Battle Creek Health System. There, he also served on the board of directors of Albion Health Services which operates Albion Community Hospital. While at Battle Creek Health System, Al directed all activity relating to staffing, compensation, benefits and policy administration, labor and employee relations, management development, mission services, pastoral care and system wide education and training.

In addition to his healthcare experience, Al spent 11 years with the Federal Express Corporation, in Atlanta, GA, Orange County, CA, and Memphis, Tennessee as senior manager of employee relations. He began his career in human resources with General Motors Corporation and Ford Motor Company.

Al was one of the first members off the Society of Human Resources Management, and held a lifetime certification of Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and belonged to the American Compensation Association.

Al had a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ferris State University and a master's degree in industrial management from Central Michigan University.
