KANNAPOLIS -- William "Bill" O'Neal Ballard, 80, of 561 Westwood Drive, died Saturday (Feb. 14, 2004) at his residence after a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Ballard was the son of the late John and Minnie Burris Ballard. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County schools and was sales manager and designer for KNI Industries until his retirement in 1995. He was of the Methodist faih and was a Mason. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Elaine Hileman Ballard of the home; sons Larry Ballard of Harrisburg, and Chris Bowles and Tim Bowles, both of Salisbury; daughters Janice Topham of Charlotte and Ann Christy of Kannapolis; sisters Loma Davis and Dottie Brady, both of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home chapel, Kannapolis, with the Rev. Jim Bowen, pastor of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Centergrove Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kannapolis.
Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
