John Newton Alley is the son of John P Alley and Mary Jane Burwell. They married 29 Jun 1910 Enid, Ok. Children are Ann, Jane and John.

" Dr. John Newton Alley died sunday June 19, in Norman Regional Hospital. The son of Professor John Alley and Mary Burwell Alley, he was born June 8 1912, at Norman where his father founded the university of Oklahoma department of political science.
Dr. Alley received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Oklahoma and his Ph.D. in French from the University of North Carolina, specializing in 19th and 20th century French literature. His extensive travel and study in Europe and his ability to speak Spanish, Italian, German and French was of great benefit in his teaching at the University of Oklahoma department of modern languages.
During World War II he served as an officer in the field artillery and later in the Office of Strategic Services in intelligence and supply missions in France.
In addition to teaching and writing for scholarly publications, Dr Alley provided leadership in the Faculty Senate and the AAUP. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, he shared in the work of the Modern Language Association and the American Association of Teachers of French.
Dr. Alley is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Raleigh Alley, two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Stephen Hall of Austin, Texas, and Jane Burwell Alley of Miami, Fl; a son and daughter-in-law, John Raleigh Alley and Noel Osborn of Oklahoma City; and two grandson, John and James Hall of Austin, Texas.
The family has suggested the American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia Pa, 19102, as appropriate for memorial contributions."
