Brian Atherton was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Starksboro, Vermont,son of Henry E. and Lutie Elphia (Cota) Atherton.

He graduated from Waterbury High School in 1953 and was married to Ramona A. (Belanger) on 12 Sept. 1953 at Waterbury, Washington County, Vermont by the Rev. Francis Leonard. Ramona is the daughter of Joseph and Doris (Mullen) Belanger. Brian was 19 at the time of his marriage and was working for General Electric. Ramona was 18, a secretary.

Brian worked for and retired from the American Home Products Corp. In his retirement years, he worked part time for Monument Farms Dairy. Golf was a special interest.

Brian and Ramona had six children:
William who married Cynthia
Mary Fraser
Stephen who married Rita
Laura who married Carroll Griggs
Robert and companion Marie Miller
David, who married Heather Norton.

Brian is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Fred, Henry Ellice, and Donald Walter.

BRISTOL - Brian C. Atherton, 77, of Bristol, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2012.

He was born in Starksboro on Sept. 3, 1934. He graduated from Waterbury High School in 1953.

He married Ramona (Belanger) Atherton on Sept. 12, 1953. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.

Brian retired from American Home Products Corporation. In his retirement years he worked part time for Monument Farms Dairy. Golf with special friends and family occupied summer months.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona; and his six children, William Atherton and wife, Cynthia, of Texas, Mary Fraser of East Middlebury, Stephen Atherton and wife, Rita, of Tennessee, Laura Griggs and husband, Carroll, of Bristol, Robert Atherton and companion, Marie Miller of Bristol, and David Atherton and wife, Heather Norton, of Brandon. Brian is also survived by 13 grand- children and 12 greatgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Fred, Henry and Donald.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol.

There will be no calling hours.
