Son of Samuel Houston Chapman (1812-1890) and Sarah Trisler Chapman (1812-1882). Husband of Sarah Holland Chapman. First wife died just prior to 1870 as she was not on that Federal Census enumeration in Pendleton Co., KY where he was called "Neinnie". Father of John Houston Chapman (1858-1944, bur. Paducah, Cottle Co., TX), Elizabeth, Martha, and Florella F. He went to Johnson Co., TX by 1880 with second wife's family, the Griffings, but returned back to Pendleton and Kenton Co., KY around 1900 where he farmed the remainder of his life. His second wife, Mary I., died in 1911 in KY. According to his death record, he was working in the field, said he was tired, sat down to rest and expired quickly.
[Note: Death certificate says he was buried in IOOF cemetery near Butler, KY. Second wife, Mary I. Griffing Chapman is buried in Butler city cemetery; has large stone.]
