Deacon John Baker, s. of Samuel Baker and Fear Robinson, b. Oct. 15, 1672 at Hull, Mass. He was the grandson of the immigrant Isaac Robinson, and gr. grandson of Rev. John Robinson (1576-1625), pastor of the core 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims at Leiden, Holland.

On Oct. 14, 1696 at Barnstable, Mass., John m. Anna Annable (q.v.), dau. of Samuel Annable and Mehitable Allyn (q.v. Allen, dau. of Thomas and his 2nd wife, the widow Winifred Crawford), b. Mar. 4, 1675/6 at Barnstable, Mass. and d. there Mar. 21, 1732/3. While an extended bio will be added latter, they had the following ten children all b. of record at Barnstable, Mass.:

• i. Anna Baker, b. Sept. 8, 1697, d. May 19, 1747 at Barnstable; m. Oct. 17, 1717 at Barnstable as his first wife, Capt. Samuel Lumbert, youngest child of Benjamin Lumbert and his 2nd wife Sarah Walker. He was b. Sept. 15, 1691 at Barnstable and d. there Nov. 12, 1759. Seven children of the marriage. His father's first wife was Jane Warren, granddau. of Richard Warren of the 1620 Mayflower passage. Jane had three children before her death at age 31 in Feb. 1682/3.

• ii. Mercy Baker, b. Aug. 18, 1699, d. June 16, 1777 at Windham, Conn.; m. May 26, 1720 at Barnstable, Benjamin Lothrop, s. of Capt. Hope and Elizabeth (Lothrop) Lothrop. He was b. Oct. 18, 1697 at Barnstable and d. June 16, 1758 at Windham, Conn. Fifteen children of the family.

• iii. John Baker, b. June 14, 1701; died in infancy.

• iv. Rebecca Baker, b. Sept. 8, 1704; likely died in infancy.

• v. Deacon Samuel Baker, b. Sept. 7, 1706, d. Dec. 9, 1791 at Windham, Conn.; m. May 30, 1732 at Barnstable, Prudence Jenkins, dau. of Joseph Jenkins and Lydia Howland. Prudence was b. Apr. 6, 1718 at Barnstable and d. July 26, 1793 at Windham, Conn. Her mother was the granddau. of John Howland of the 1620 Mayflower passage.

• vi. Mary Baker, b. Mar. 25, 1710; m. on or soon after Oct. 20, 1733 (intention filed at Barnstable), Lemuel Hedge of Yarmouth, Mass., s. of Samuel Hedge and Grace Snow. He was b. Mar. 4, 1709/10 at Eastham, Mass. They have not been traced further.

• vii. Mehitable Baker, b. May 7, 1712, her date of death unknown; m. Jan. 10, 1733/4 at Barnstable, Ebenezer Crosby of Yarmouth, Mass., s. of Ebenezer and Hannah Crosby. He was b. May 5, 1706 at Eastham, Mass. and d. Oct. 20, 1752 at East Haddam, Conn. Nine children of the family. Following his death, Mehitable purportedly m. a second husband, but the marriage is not adequately documented.

• viii. Abigail Baker, b. Feb. 1, 1713/4, d. Dec. 24, 1786 at Tolland, Conn.; m. 1) Nov. 9, 1732 at Barnstable, Mass., Ichabod Lothrop, s. of Capt. Hope and Elizabeth (Lothrop) Lothrop. He was b. Jan. 20, 1707/8 at Falmouth, Mass. and d. Oct. 28, 1752 at Tolland, Conn. Eight children of the family. Following Ichabod's death, Abigail m. 2) Nov. 26, 1754 at Tolland, Conn. as his 2nd wife, Samuel West, Sr., s. of Dea. Francis West and Mercy Minor. He was b. Apr. 10, 1700 at Stonington, Conn. and d. at Tolland, Conn. Feb. 3, 1779. Two additional children of the marriage. Dea. Samuel's 1st wife was Sarah Delano, who d. at Tolland, Conn. Oct. 22, 1752 after bearing eight children.

• ix. John Baker, Jr., b. Dec. 1, 1716, d. Feb. 26, 1815; m. Nov. 27, 1744 at the Scotland Society Chh., then part of Windham, Conn., Mercy Cary (q.v. Carey), b. circa 1725/6. Her gravestone calls her "Marcy Baker." She may have been Mary Cary (q.v.), b. of record at Windham Oct. 21, 1725, dau. of John Cary and Hannah Thurston. She d. Mar. 23, 1814 at Windham, Æ 89, her "Ætatis" age at death complimentary to the date of birth of the aforementioned "Mary" Cary. Eleven children of the family.

• x. Hannah Baker, b. Mar. 24, 1718/9, d. Mar. 4, 1787 at Barnstable, Mass.; m. Mar. 15, 1743/4 at the Scotland Society Chh., then part of Windham, Conn., William Crocker, Jr., s. of William and Mary (Crocker) Crocker. He was b. Sept. 9, 1710 at Barnstable and d. there Aug. 17, 1791. Four children of the family.

As a widower, Dea. John Baker relocated with two of his sons from Barnstable to Windham, Conn. in 1743. As noted, several of his daus. m. at Barnstable then also relocated to Conn. Dea. Baker probably d. at the eastern part of Windham now the separate Town of Scotland, Conn. His gravestone is in the "old" north section of the Scotland Cemetery at the northeast corner of Devotion and Cemetery Roads.

The modern gravestone shown containing his name and that of his two sons, Samuel and John, and Samuel and John's namesake sons, is also located at the "old" Scotland Cemetery as a modern cenotaph due to missing or unreadable family gravestones.
