Vivian V. Beougher was born July 26, 1914 to Corwin and Mabel (Roberts) Smith on the family farm near Gove, KS. She passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2004 in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care at Quinter at the age of 90.
As a girl, Vivian attended the Wild Rose rural school and the Gove Rural High School.
On July 14, 1929, she was united in marriage to Merlyn E. Beougher at Scott City.
Vivian worked as a postal clerk from February 1, 1945, until she was named Postmaster on July 1, 1972, and worked until her retirement, June 30, 1975. She lived in the Gove area until for health reasons, she moved to the Long Term Care two years ago.
Some of Vivian's hobbies were quilting at the Senior Center, reading, and story telling. She was a member of the Gove United Methodist Church and the NAPUS (National Association Postmaster of United States).
Survivors include three sons, Loren and wife, JoAnn of Raytown, MO, Marvin and wife Marilea, of Grainfield, Elton and wife, Wendy, of Hays; a daughter, Ima Lee Heier of Angola, IN; three brothers, Carl Smith and wife Mary, of Corpus Christi, TX, Darrel Smith and wife Marita, of Denver, CO; a sister, Wilda Smith of Hays:twelve grandchildren, Sherry Haskin and husband, Warren, Arnold Heier, Marilyn Colbert, Vivian Nicely, Chris Clark, Von Beougher and wife, Kelly, Vern Beougher, Kevin Beougher and wife, Linda, Marlin Beougher and wife Barb, Marvel Blank and husband, Doug, Traci Collins and husband Alan, Tim Beougher and wife, Ronda; twenty great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Merlyn; five brothers, Marion, Ramon, Kenneth, Francis, and Corwin Smith Jr.; and a grandson, Gilbert Heier.
Beautiful people do not just happen. Vivian's life made a positive difference in the lives of family and friends and to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
