Ray Crowder was a man of great love, laughter and wisdom. He was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi, on August 3, 1937 to Marvin and Mary Crowder. Raised in the south, Ray grew up with 5 sisters, Willard Brown, Wilma Funderburk, Audrey Watts, Verlon Culver, Eleanor McCollister and 2 brothers Tom Crowder and Eldridge Crowder.
At the age of 19, he met the love of his life, Elois Carnes. They married on September 3, 1957 and shortly after, planted new roots in Zion, IL. Together they raised a family of three children, Terry Steven, Tammy Renee and Tracy Glenn. The main focus in Ray's life was his family, everything he did was for the good of their simple, yet rich and fulfilled life. He also had a passion for vintage cars and after retirement traveling the country with his wife.
To carry on his legacy, Ray bestows that honor to his wife, Elois, their 3 children: Terry (Kim) Crowder, Tammy (Andy) Poss and Tracy (Kim) Crowder, 12 grandchildren: Aryk Crowder, Derick (Sonya) Crowder, Hollee (Aaron) Elam, Dustin Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, Wesley Garbutt, Alexandra Garbutt, Kristi Poss, Kayla Poss, Whitney Lemm, Garret Holley and Sheridan Crowder, and 4 great-grandchildren: Rowen Crowder, Cayden Mitchell, baby Ocampo due October 2010 and baby Elam due February 2011. His memory will be long cherished with his wife's siblings, Barbara McDowell, Caroline Thorn, Charlotte and O'Neal Funderburk, Janie and Rick Bjork, John and Jeneen Carnes and Brenda Purser, as Ray held them in his heart as though they were his own brothers and sisters. Along with his extensive family, Ray's memory will also be cherished by the many friends and members of his church that knew him as a man with a big heart and generous spirit.
For his first dinner in heaven, Ray will be joining his parents, Marvin and Mary Crowder, his siblings, Tom Crowder and Eldridge Crowder, his wife's parents, Fray and Inez Carnes, his brother-in-law Euel Carnes and many other beloved family members. His family rests in knowing he will be welcomed with open arms and joyous hearts.
