Billy was born Sept. 11, 1933, at Watts, Okla., one of nine children born to Caud and Grace (Parker) Cannon. He moved as a child with family to Hood River. He attended school at Odell and graduated from Wy'east High School in 1952.

On Feb. 21, 1953, he married Lettie (Turner) in Stevenson, Wash., and to this union were born four children. Shortly after their marriage, Billy enlisted and served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1953-55 during the Korean War.

Billy worked more than 36 years for the Hood River County shop; he started in 1962 as a lube man in the garage and retired as the shop foreman in 1998. He was quite the mechanic both professionally and at home; turning wrenches, welding or just tinkering — he was always fixing or making something. His craftsmanship wasn't limited to just automotive feats but he was also an accomplished wood craftsman from building homes to creating special family keepsakes from driftwood. Billy was a "Jack of all trades and master of most."

In addition to his tinkering and creating he also enjoyed playing horseshoes and pool. He was an avid outdoorsman: camping, fishing on one of many trips to Kingsley Reservoir, deer and elk hunting around Heppner, Ore., and the family trips to the Oregon Coast at Seaside.
