James Garnet Abel, 72, died, Wednesday, Jan, 24, 1990 in the Brigham City Community Hospital of Cancer.

He was born December 12, 1917, in American Fork, Utah, a son of Thomas A. and Frances Brook Abel.

He married Verla Beth Holman, February 14, 1941, in Provo. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, Jan. 3, 1945.

He was reared and educated in American Fork and graduated from Bear River High School. He has lived in American Fork, Springville, Provo, Elwood, Tremonton and Garland.

He worked for the Government in the Civil Service. He was also a member of the Armed Forces, serving in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Survivors include his wife of Garland; five sons and four daughters-in-law and three daughters and two sons-in-law; Jim and Carolyn Abel and Mike and Karen Abel, all of Tremonton; Alan Abel, Denver, Colorado; Reese and Gwen Abel, Provo: Dan and Peggy Abel, LaFayette, Colorado; Kathy and Julian Negugogor, Bountiful; Mary and Robert Harris Loveland, Colorado; Carol Abel, Garland; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are five brothers and their wives and three sisters and their husbands; Ernest and Audrey Abel and Roy and Darlene Abel, all of Garland; Fred and Lila Abel, Smithfield; Ralph and Janet Abel, Elwood; Kenneth and Becky Abel, Pembroke, Virginia; Edith and Ray Conger, Brigham City; Erma and Lionel Furness, Hyrum; Jean and
Ed Hansen, Ogden.

He was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 29, 1990 at 1 p.m. in the Tremonton South Stake Center with Bishop Lyle W. Reynolds officiating.

Interment will be in the Bear River City Cemetery.
