Mr. Berg was the younger of the two sons of Signe Victoria and Carl Edward Berg. He was educated in the public schools of Jamestown, NY and at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, class of 1937. From 1937 to 1941 he was a teacher at Greenport High School in Greenport, Long Island, and at Brocton High School in Brocton, New York, teaching classes in Agriculture. In 1941 he did graduate work at the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, prior to entering military service in November of that year. During World War II he served as an officer in the U.S. Army, entering as a First Lieutenant. After the war he continued in serve in the Army, first in Japan and then going to Korea in 1946, seeing service both there and stateside during the course of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Captain in 1953. He then moved to Los Angeles, California where he entered the agricultural chemical industry. He remained in the Los Angeles area for the rest of his life. As an American son of Swedish-born parents, Mr. Berg was deeply interested in Swedish culture and made numerous trips to Sweden, visiting relatives and doing genealogical research. He was an active member of the Swedish community of the San Fernando Valley and spoke fluent Swedish, Spanish, and Korean. He was a communicant of the Lutheran Church and a Mason. From 1941 to 1946 he was married to Marjorie R. Macer of Bufflao, NY. Following his funeral in Northridge, CA on July 7, 1998 his remains were returned to his native Jamestown, NY for burial beside his parents.
