PASTOR JAMES k ANDERSON, SR., the third of twelve siblings, was born the 23rd of March 1927 in Bolton, Mississippi to the late Cecil and Lutisha (Jones) Andersen. His parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Pastor Anderson received his early education on the plantation in a one room school house and then through the Bolton school system. His education was limited due to being share croppers (he went to school between the planting and harvest seasons). He was a self-taught man who overcame many obstacles and adversities.

His love of traveling was the result of his mother's desire to know how the family was getting on. She would send him on trips to check on the family member she was concerned about and upon his return he would give her a full account of their coming and goings. She would often tease him when he was older about his "itchy foot" and the need to get away from Mississippi that sent him to Needles. California to live with his grandparents, Gene and Mary Anderson. He was a resident of the Needles community for 67 years.

He met Migion Chaffers on the evening of Stella (Mason) Parson's high school graduation. Mother Queenie Cox asked Olga Garner (Migion's mother) if he could drive Sister Chaffers to the ceremony. He picked her up in a shiny black 1941 Ford. The late Bishop C.C. Cox married them on Sunday April 24, 1949, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Upper Room Church of God in Christ. Six children were born to this union, and later in their life they adopted a tiny little girl. Now, there were seven, Linda, Jennie, Van, Danasha, James Jr., Donald and Stephen. They also raised Mother Anderson cousins Terry and Deborah Jenkins.

Pastor Anderson worked for the Needles Unified School District for 43 years. He served the district as a custodian, school bus driver and landscaper. His work history in the city of Needles is extensive (barman at the Cardona Hotel, baker at Claypool's, the ice plant Bark of America, Denny's, Needles Municipal Airport is just the tip of the iceberg). It was the need to care for his family and the many children he and Mother Anderson gathered into their small nest - why so many jobs were necessary. All the hurting or displaced children no came into their home were family forever. He never complained about the long hours or how tired he was - he just did the job in his quiet humble manner.

He served the community of Needles as the local president Or the California State Employees Association (CSEA) and Captain of the Needles Volunteer Fire Department. As a member of the local Travelers Aid Satiety, he and Mother Anderson helped many a stranded traveler reach their designated destinations. He ran for Mayor of Needles, however, he abandoned his political career for his first love of the ministry of God's word. He did at want anything to interfere with be first call. He has served as a board member and president of the Needles Revival Senior Center.
In 1945, the mother of the late Tillman Johnson conducted a revival in Needles. He was in this revival when he received Christ and was filled with the Holy Ghost. He, his grandmother and sister, Carmelita Miller, were among the first souls who were added to the mission in Needles. In November of 1951 he received his Minister's License under the leadership of Elder Melvin R. Givens. During the state convocation in June 1963, the late Bishop C.C. Cox ordained him an Elder or the Church of God in Christ. He served in the capacity of Assistant Pastor to Elder Jeff Johnson for twenty-five years. In 1974, the late Bishop E.N. Webb appointed him Pastor of the Upper Coast Church of God in Christ where he faithfully served until his transition April 16th, 2013. He diligently and faithfully served Nevada First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction as Chairman for the Grievance Board. State President of the Y.P.W.W. Department and Fellowship District President of the Mission Department, Long before he was ever appointed to any position, he could be found doing whatever his hands found to do. At the Youth Congress in Reno, you would find him with a mop, vacuum cleaner or dust cloth in hand preparing the sanctuary for service.

He wasn't boastful or high-minded: instead, he showed patience, humility, kindness, gentleness and a lot of love. He recognized early that his reward was a heavenly one. As it was stated by Nannette McCorkle "If a man's value is measured, not by money or material possessions, but, by the number of lives he has touched, then Pastor Anderson was a very wealthy and beloved man. And we were all better people for having known him."

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2013, Pastor Anderson transitioned from labor to reward.
