Per his death certificate, Chalon was born to James M. and Mary E. (Louery or Lowry) Adams in McLeansburg, Illinois. In 1908, Chalon married Daisy Carrie (Starks) Tuttleton and they had eight children:

Marjorie
Daisy also had a son, Clarence Tuttleton, from a previous marriage. Daisy died in 1941. In 1942, Chalon married Lily Mae (Jackson) Digges. They lived in St. Louis until 1950, when they moved to Poplar Bluff. They remained in Poplar Bluff until their deaths less than one week apart in 1954. Chalon is buried in Stevens Chapel Cemetery, Dunklin County. It is located just off of County Highway 127 between County Highway 100 and County Highway 102.
