He served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II, and was retired from construction and coal field mining.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Neese Alley of the home; three grandchildren, Staci Alley-Ash of Hampton, Vic, Australia, Capt. Todd C. Alley of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Cadet Jason C. Alley of Citadel Station, Charleston, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Fredricka Alley of Clover, S.C.; two sisters, Fannie Hudson of Austinville and Geneva Poston of Wytheville; one brother, Frank Alley of Austinville; several nieces and nephews, and one special great-nephew, Phillip Arnold Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10, 1997, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Wood officiating. Interment will follow in West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, or at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
