Henry Clinton Allnutt, for the last twenty-five years Register of Wills for this county and one of the county's most widely known and best beloved citizens, died on Sunday, February 25, 1923, at his home in Rockville, following a long illness, aged 67 years.
Mr. Allnutt was the son of the late Nathan Allnutt, of Dawsonville, this county, and was born and reared in that community. In early manhood, he engaged in the mercantile business at Dawsonville and later was a clerk for several years in the Land Office at Annapolis.
Mr. Allnutt was nominated and elected sic consecutive times to the office of Register of Wills, and several times had no opposition. By uniform kindness and courtesy he endeared himself to all persons having business with his office, therefore was practically invincible whenever a candidate for office. He was one of the most influential political leaders in the county.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Josephine Veirs Allnutt, and the following children; Claude B. Allnutt, of New York City; George B. Allnutt, E. Cecil Allnutt, and Mrs. Harry Buck, of Rockville.
Mr. Allnutt was a consistent member of the Primitive Baptist Church. The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the family residence, a large number of person from all sections of the county attending. Rev. R.H. Pitman, of Luray, Va., and Rev. A. J. Garland, of Washington, ministers of the Primitive Baptist Church, officiated. Six nephews of the deceased — William V. and Nicholas Dawson, Lee and Lawrence Jones, Ernest and Arthur Allnutt — were the pallbearers. Burial was in Rockville Union Cemetery. The floral contributions were numerous, one from the court house officials and members of the local bar being especially beautiful.
