During WWII, Pfc Albaugh was a member of the 309th Infantry, 78th Division and served in the European Theater. Purple Heart.



James Millard Albaugh, 70, of New Windsor, died Thursday, May 17, 1990 at Carroll County General Hospital after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1919 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Millie Kump Albaugh. His wife Charlotte Virginia Weller Albaugh died 1988.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army with the 309th Infantry of the 78th Division in the European Theater, France, Belgium and Germany. He was wounded on Feb. 15, 1945 in Schmidt, Germany. He was employed as a machinist at the Crown Cork and Seal Company in Baltimore for 46 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the New Windsor Fire Company for 42 years, serving in many capacities. He was a member of VFW Post 8806 of Union Bridge and the American Legion Post 31 of Westminster.

Surviving are his daughter Virginia Lee Long of New Windosr; sons James Allen Albaugh of near Union Bridge and John Carroll Albaugh of Westminster; sisters Mary Testerman of Union Bridge and Kathryn Givens of Baltimore; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler with the Rev. Carroll M. Brown, lay pastor of Sudbrook United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Winter's Cemetery near New Windsor.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where memorial services will be conducted by the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company at 8 p.m.
