He first married Emma Dora Bagley in approximately 1877 and had 8 children with her: Eugene Americus, Edna Pearl, Frank Davis, Walter, Lester Mitchell, Carrie Mae and an infant in 1891 who died along with Emma Dora. Later that year he married Maria Virginia Page with whom he had one daughter Lucile. From Census data it appears that he lived his entire life in the Macon County, Alabama area. His death certificate list cause of death as Apoplexy.
