Maude Mary Sapp was a daughter of Dr. Andrew Jackson Sapp and his wife Mary Ann Hunt. She married John Alexander Lindsay (1842-1907) on 4 October 1881.

John and Maude Mary lived in an elegant Victorian home John built on North Main Street in High Point. He was Vice President of the First National Bank of High Point.

John Alexander and Maude Mary Sapp Lindsay had three children, John Alexander Lindsay, Jr. (1884-1950, m. Mary Hutchison), Berta Marguerite Lindsay (1891-1978, m. Bruce Hilliard Carraway) and Andrew Avery Lindsay (1895-1976, m. Ida Paulette).
