Orlando Thayer Barrowes (Lanny), age 74, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on June 2, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born March 23, 1939, to Thayer Clark Barrowes and Fern Rees Barrowes. He married Dee Ann Earl on March 18, 1963, in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of nine children and many foster children. Orlando graduated from Granite High School and the University of Utah. He attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle, Washington, where he received a doctor of dental science degree.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, residing in the Salt Lake Hyland Lake Ward. He served a full-time mission to northern California, was a bishop of the South Cottonwood Third Ward, and was a lifetime scouter, having been awarded the Silver Beaver service award.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Ann; sons, Thadd Lanny (Angela), Gavin Earl (Rebekah), Kirk Thayer (Angela), Ruston James, and Kendall Rees (Norda); daughters, Jenna Stringham (Grant), Trisha Gordon (Kent), Tandea Ford (Zad), and Angelle Cornia (Matt); 37 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Steven (Hope), Kendall (Judy), Lowell (Norma), and Eldon (Terese) Barrowes; sisters, Loana Anderson (Frank), Maevonne Whitaker (Ron), and Reeba Barrows (Zach Castleton); step-mother, Mary Ashdown Barrowes; step-brothers, Robert Ashdown (Francine), Kenneth Ashdown (Anne); step-sisters, Ilene Alleman (Cal), Shirley Hathaway (Neil), Nola Finch (Jerry), Joyce McStotts (Tom Halliday), and KayLee Ashdown. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the South Cottonwood Stake Center located at 1250 East 4800 South (Murray-Holladay Road) at 12:00 noon. Viewings will be held at the same stake center on Friday, June 7, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday prior to the funeral services from 10:00-11:45 a.m. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Barrowes' Family missionary fund at any Chase Bank under the name: Barrowes' Family Trust.
