Jack Fransen Bailey passed away Wednesday July 30, 2008, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. He was born in a log cabin in Ephraim, Utah, the fourth of six children of Alfred Glen and Clara Fransen Bailey. Jack's family moved to Lyman, Idaho when he was three. He attended Cedar Point Grade School and Madison High School. After graduating high school, he attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah and the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks; he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Ricks College, Rexburg, Idaho; and attended Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, where he earned his CPA degree.
Jack had two hobbies: family and scouting. He always dearly loved and supported his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was a solid rock for his family and friends. He was very proud to be an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for 74 years. He was also proud to be a veteran of the Army, serving his country during World War II. He served nearly four years active duty; part of that time was spent in the China-Burma-India theater. After his full-time service he joined the Army Reserve Officer Corps. He retired after 20 years as a Lieutenant Colonel from the 449th unit in Rexburg.
He married Lorna Hacking in the Idaho Falls temple on September 16, 1946. She passed away March 1, 1973. They had five children: Bart, Brenda (Dennis) Gillie, Brad (Lisa) Bailey, Bonnie Barton, and Beverley (Jon) Maxfield. On June 6, 1992, he married Nancy McLain in the Manti temple. He considered her children as his own: Lisa (Robert) Peterson, Matthew (Amy) McLain, and Katie McLain. He is survived by his sister Mona Taylor and brother Garth Bailey, all of his children and their spouses, and 15 grandchildren: Lee (Vanessa), Ric (Rachel), Micahleen, Ben, and Dan Gillie, Annalise and Sarah Bailey, Kurt Maxfield, Jackson and Jonathan Barton, Holli (Caleb) Sharp, Kristin, Adriann, Alysa Peterson, and one beautiful great granddaughter Macady Gillie. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Udale, LeRoy and Clair.
