Bickerstaff Killed in Crash
Capt. Robert Bradford Bickerstaff of Columbus, Ga., son of the former Bessie Bradford, sister of R. H. and R. F. Bradford of this city, was killed in an airplane crash on January 5 in Midland, Tex., where he was an instructor.
He had recently returned from the European theater, where he completed 30 missions as a bomber pilot. He had been awarded the air medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Bickerstaff graduated from the University of North Carolina in June, 1942, and entered the service upon graduation. He received the wings of the army air corps at Stuttgart, Ark., on July 28, 1943 and went overseas in December 1943.
