Frank J. Bickerstaff, Sr., pioneer brick manufacturer, 1006 Cooper Avenue, died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.

Born in Seale, Ala., February 18, 1879, Bickerstaff was the son of the late Mrs. Emma Howard Bickerstaff and the late James H. Bickerstaff, and a life-long resident of Russell and Muscogee Counties.

Bickerstaff is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Bradford Bickerstaff; two sons, Frank J. Bickerstaff, Jr. and Richard H. Bickerstaff; two brothers, A. Howard Bickerstaff and Hugh Bickerstaff, both of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Charles R. (Daisy) Dudley of Seale, Ala., and Mrs. Thomas C. (Marion) Perry of Clemson, S.C.; six grandchildren, Mrs. Craig (Becky) Roberts, Frank J. Bickerstaff, III, Robert R. Bickerstaff, Mary F. Bickerstaff, Richard H. Bickerstaff, Jr., and Walker R. Bickerstaff, and one great-grandchild, Becky Ellen Roberts.

Funeral will be at the grave in Riverdale Cemetery, 11 a.m., today, with the Rev. Donald M. Kea officiating. Bickerstaff was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers are L. Neill Bickerstaff, Hale Bickerstaff, William J. Bickerstaff, Hale Bickerstaff, Jr., James Schomburg, and Cedric E. Brennan."
