OCHELATA, Okla. -- Howard Stanley Beals, 87, died Thursday, May 6, 2010. He was born March 11, 1923, in Lamar, Kan., to Enoch and Matilda (Rothfuss) BEALS.
Stanley was raised and attended school in Miltonvale. He helped his father on the family farm and worked in the trucking business. Stanley joined the United States Navy, serving in World War II. He married Betty Allen on March 2, 1952, in Oak Hill. She survives, of the home. Stanley continued to drive a truck until his retirement in 1987. Stanley and Betty moved to Ochelata, in 2006, to be near family.
He is preceded in death by a brother, five sisters and a son-in-law. Survivors include his wife, Betty Beals, of Ochelata; three daughters, Linda Koons, of Ochelata, Shirley Sledge, of Phoenix, and Barbara Lankford, of Burley, Idaho; one sister, Jackie Mandrell, of Glendale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Phelps Funeral Home, Miltonvale, Kan. Burial will be in Miltonvale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Clay Center Wesleyan Church, in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 Seventh St., Clay Center, KS 67432. HOWARD STANLEY BEALS
OCHELATA, Okla.-- Howard Stanley BEALS, 87, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Ochelata, Okla.
Mr. Beals was born March 11, 1923 at Lamar, the son of Enoch and Matilda (Rothfuss) Beals.
He grew up and attended school in Miltonvale. He helped his father on the family farm and worked in the trucking business. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He married Betty ALLEN on March 2, 1952 at Oak Hill. He continued to drive truck until his retirement in 1987. He and his wife moved to Ochelata, Okla. in 2006. He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Beals; five sisters, Inez Comfort, Amy Pracht, Leah Simpson, Eva Boyer and Betty Lou Kramer; and one son-in-law, Larry Ennis.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Beals of the home at Ochelata, Okla.; three daughters, Linda Koons of Ochelata, Okla., Shirley Sledge of Phoenix, Ariz. and Barbara Lankford of Burley, Idaho; one sister, Jackie Mandrell of Glendale, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. today, Monday, May 10 at the Phelps Funeral Home, Miltonvale, with the Rev. Jim Koons Sr. officiating. Burial was in Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale.
