Elizabeth was born in Germany. She married Jacob Baltes. In 1881, Elizabeth and her two young children, John and Katherine, immigrated to America. DEATH OF MRS. BALTES
Arriving in Hammond from Scranton, Pa., last Friday, to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Knoezer, 54 Clinton street, Mrs. Elizabeth Baltes, 70 years old, passed away at the Clinton street residence early Sunday morning, following a brief illness.
While traveling on the train Mrs. Baltes did not feel very well and after arriving at the daughter's home complained of feeling ill. A physician was called and although she grew weaker and weaker, it was not thought that her condition was of a serious nature. Her death occurred at 4: 30 o'clock Sunday morning, and is attributed to old age.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Knoezer in Hammond, she is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. J. Weniger of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Merkle of Scranton, Pa., and one son, John Baltes of Scranton, Pa. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, seven of who live in Hammond.
The funeral will be held at the St. Joseph church Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock, and interment will be made at the St. Joseph cemetery in the family lot.
