He worked for Lockheed Aeronautics in Santa Clara, CA. and was later transferred to Huntsville, AL.
He later returned to the Floyd community where he farmed until 1986.
Truett worked at a variety of occupations, and finally became a math instructor at E.N.M.U. where he remained until his retirement.
