Arpod Balla was the seventh born child of Hungarian émigrés, Alexander Balla (1886-1950) and Julia Molnar (1885-1962); and he was the second of their children to have been born in Texas, where they moved after leaving New York. He was the beloved brother of Alex Balla Jr., Ima (Balla) Creech, Frank Balla, John Balla, Irene (Balla) Sebok, Esther (Balla) Sacchelli, Henry Balla, Aline (Balla) Goetz, and Ethel Jewel (Balla) Elmer.

Much of his early life was spent in Sabine and Jasper counties of Texas. On the 13 January 1940, Arpod married Lois Gore (1921-2004), the daughter John Gore (1894-1987) and Mollie Watts (1892-1976), in Tyler Co., Texas. Arpod and Lois had three children between 1940 and 1951: RA, Patricia, and Welton. After the birth of their first child, they moved to Hardin Co., Texas.

Arpod passed away on the 5 November 1986 in Silsbee, Hardin Co., Texas. He was buried in Cunningham Cemetery in Silsbee. His wife, Lois, followed him in death eighteen years later; and was buried next to him in Cunningham Cemetery.
