Librado (Lalo) Campos, 85, died Saturday, March 11, 2006. Born February 2, 1921 in Phoenix, AZ, he lived in San Diego for 66 years. Lalo moved to Barrio Logan in 1940, where he became active in sports and coaching Little League. Lalo was drafted into the Army Medical Corps at the beginning of World War II. He earned the Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Medical Badge. He was discharged Dec. 12, 1945. Freedom, pride and glory were the driving force of Lalo Campos. He was a proud Charter Member of the Don Diego VFW Post 7420. He served twice as Commander of Post 7420 and also as District Commander of 43 VFW Posts. He was elected to VFW California State Sergeant-At-Arms, which he held for 20 years. He also served as the VFW Post 7420 Captain of the Color Guard for many years. Lalo is survived by daughter and son-in-law Eva and Don Pageler, sons and daughters-in-law Carlos and Kim Campos, Ron and Linda Campos; sisters Adelina Cando, Josephina Trujillo, Leonore Woodvine, Genevieve Helton; stepchildren Dolores Alferos, Teresa Cornejo, Roerta Lamp, Felicia Simpson and Sisto Cornejo; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Lalo is preceded in death by his wife Paula, brother Manuel, daughter and son-in-law Elisa and Carlos Najera, their son Michael and a great-granddaughter, Madison Campos. Lalo will be best remembered for his wit, humor, crisp military bearing, warm generosity and love of Mariachis music. Services were at 6 p.m., March 20th at St. John of the Cross, 8086 Broadway, Lemon Grove; Mass was at 11 a.m., March 21st at Holy Cross Church followed by Inurnment at the Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego.
