STERLING, Ill. - Maude Esther Atkinson, 99, of 1403 Riverview Road, Sterling, Ill., passed away Monday morning at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
She was born April 24, 1891, in Bloomington, Ill., the daughter of Christian and Sarah Staley Bierderman.
She was educated in Bloomington, Ill., schools.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling.
She was a well-known cook in the Sterling-Rock Falls-Rockford-Beloit area.
She was united in marriage in 1907 to John Oliver Storey. He passed away in 1915.
In 1917 she married Reuben Paul Button. He passed away in December 1940.
In 1946 she married Elmer Atkinson. He passed away in November 1961. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Alps, Sterling; and Mrs. Sara Stern, Rock Falls; a son, Eugene Storey, of North Carolina; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Davey of Sterling; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 44 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, three sisters and two brothers.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 410 Second Ave., Sterling, with the Rev. Richard Menzel officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.
Visitation is from noon until the time of the service at the church.
Blair Funeral Home of Sterling is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
