William Lee Brittain, a Tracy resident, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. He was 60. He fought a long and courageous battle against congestive heart failure.
Born Oct. 28, 1942, in San Jose, CA, Bill grew up in the Livermore Valley and graduated from Livermore High School. He also received his AA degree in Computer Science from San Joaquin Delta Junior College in Stockton, CA. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and was a horseshoer and a fire captain with Alameda County Sheriffs Department.
Bill enjoyed camping, hunting, working on computers, cowboy lore, western swing music, and attending jazz festivals. He was a 4-H leader for 10 years and taught many children about raising sheep and leather crafts. He was a registered member of the Northern Cherokee Nation and enjoyed traveling throughout the Southwest and learning about Native American culture.
Bill is survived by his wife of 38 years, Becky Brittain; his daughters, Wendy Brittain of San Francisco, CA, and Cindy Meza of Fresno, CA; his son-in-law Luis Meza of Fresno, CA; his father, Woodie Brittain of Redmond, OR; his half-brother and sister, Tim and Torrey Brittain of Redmond, OR; his grandsons, Liam and Evan Meza of Fresno, CA; many nieces and nephews as well as dear family and friends.
